Who is Defining My Future?

Scripture:

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing. Isaiah 43:18–19

How This Relates to Recovery:

You may be carrying more than an eating disorder.

You may be carrying shame.

Regret.

Past mistakes.

A story you've been telling yourself for years about who you are.

Maybe you've convinced yourself that you'll always struggle.

Maybe you've begun to see your eating disorder as part of your identity instead of something God is healing you from.

But God is not asking you to live looking backward.

He is inviting you to look at what He is doing right now.

Recovery is not about pretending the past never happened.

It's about refusing to let your past define your future.

You are not your diagnosis.

You are not your behaviors.

You are not the mistakes you've made along the way.

Your identity is not found in your struggle.

Your identity is found in Christ.

And even if healing feels slow, God is still at work.

He is still restoring.

Still redeeming.

Still doing a new thing in your life.

Ready to go deeper? Ask yourself today:

What part of my past am I allowing to define me today?

This week, practice replacing old labels with God's truth.

That may look like:

• Challenging thoughts that keep you stuck in shame

• Speaking God's truth over yourself each morning

• Thanking God for evidence of growth, no matter how small

• Choosing to see yourself as a daughter of God before anything else

Prayer:

God, help me release the labels, shame, and stories that no longer belong to me. Teach me to see myself through Your eyes and not through the lens of my past. Remind me that my identity is found in You, not in my struggles. Thank You for continuing to work in my life and for making all things new. Amen.

Glow forward this week!

Elyse
