The Problem with Perfectionism
Scripture:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
How This Relates to Recovery:
Perfectionism keeps so many women trapped in recovery.
It says:
“If I struggle, I’m failing.”
“If recovery feels hard, I must be doing it wrong.”
“If I still have fear, I must not be healing.”
But healing was never meant to be perfect.
There will be difficult days. Days where fear feels loud. Days where emotions feel overwhelming. Days where you feel discouraged. None of that means you are failing.
Weakness is not proof that God has abandoned you. Sometimes weakness is exactly where dependence on God begins to grow.
And sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is continue showing up honestly instead of pretending you’re okay.
Recovery is not about performing strength perfectly.
It’s about continuing to move forward in honesty.
Ready to go deeper? Ask yourself:
“Where has perfectionism been making recovery harder for me?”
This week, practice allowing “imperfect progress.”
That may look like:
• Choosing recovery even when it feels uncomfortable
• Giving yourself compassion after a hard moment
• Letting go of the need to feel fully ready before taking action
• Trusting that messy progress still counts
Healing does not require perfection to be real.
Prayer:
God, help me release the pressure to heal perfectly. Teach me to trust You even in messy moments. Remind me that Your grace meets me exactly where I am. Amen.
Glow forward this week!
